Saba is a violent scary person and I love her. And while the no-dialogue-tag thing bugged me originally, I got used to it. She rowd read or write, so her narrating style consists of abrupt, grammatically-incorrect sentences.

Despite dialect prose of someone who has never had book learnin’, I was soon captured by the stark setting and the fast moving plot. I think that the dialect creates a great atmosphere and the lack of quotation marks really work to make the dialogue seem immediate and natural. She screwed up plenty. I love everything about Saba – her language, her intensity, her heart.

What about the stars? By the end of the book which is nearly pages I was pulling out my hair. Three stars because it was a bit better than okay, but I probably won’t continue the series because once dustlanda generosity evaporates it’ll only goal downhill in the star department. And I have to give it to her, the book is an attention gripper from start to finish.
