At the end of the book, Caitlin is released cessen before she goes she takes a picture of the new her, and compares it to the old picture she once ripped but has put back together. Just like you were in dreamland.
It’s one of those books that you just have to read. But it struck a chord with me, because Caitlin loved Rogerson, and saw something behind his hurting her Caitlin breaks her committment to the cheerleading team because it “feels right”.
Well one day Cass leaves her family which of course changes the whole family dreamlabd. To us, she’s something completely different: Readers beware, this is not a lovey dovey book with sunshine and roses that desseb make teenage love seem magical.

If you liked this one read Breathing Underwaterwhich shows this situation from the other side. Because you read about Caitlin’s justifications, her fear, her starting to realize after a while that even when she’s perfect that Rogeron really just wants a reason to hit her. It is painfully honest as she describes the reality of abusive boyfriends.

And even after what had happened, I wasn’t ready to give that up just yet. Dreamland is about a girl named Caitlin. At least until she meets Rogerson, who is the mysterious bad boy in her life. She does make a conscious decision to start dating Rogerson, though — the hot boy described on the back cover. She could be with him and not have to worry about being hurt.
This novel is narrated past-tense by Caitlin O’Koren, a girl who celebrates her sweet sixteen by frantically searching for her runaway sister, Cass.
The typical “no one loves you like I do” or “you deserved it; I didn’t want to hit you, you made me. WE knew it and they knew it. It makes sense that Rogerson is trapped in a vicious circle of violence and sucks Caitlin into it, yet we don’t see this explained, Rogerson is left as a 2D character who beats his girlfriend because it makes him feel better?
When Corinna finally finds the courage to leave Dave, what do her silver bracelets desesn to symbolize to Caitlin, and how does the wearing of them affect her decisions? And, frankly, Desseen put up with way too much of his shit, and she needed to develop a few more thoughts for herself. Sometimes I just don’t understand why authors have to add bad sarha to their books-it doesn’t make the novel more real or interesting than it already is. At this point in the story, I sighed, because this story has been told time and time again: The girl was stoned all of the time, constantly at the beck and call of her boyfriend, lost weight, and was doing perpetually worse in class, among other things. It had a lot of the elements of the other books, but something kept pulling it deeper, to a place that for me, as a writer, was really challenging.
Ddeamland it’s so different. Read it Forward Read it first. It dealt with violence and abuse and I had creamland difficult time reading it.
If Sarah Dessen’s books live up to this standard, I can guarantee she will become one of my favorite authors.
